I am pretty sure it illegal to own ANY kingsnakes in Georgia also. They do not want to risk indignous snake species from alternative locations(or other species that can hybridize native populations) being released into the wild and integrating into the Georgia snake population....so they just banned them all.

Re: Corns now illegal in NJ??????
A local pet shop here was recently busted for having corns and even ratsnakes. I'm in VA.
I'll look around Lexis-Nexis later on and see what I can come up with. I don't know if these are new laws on the books or they are just now being enforced. That's wierd that this stuff is all popping up at the same time in different states. Makes me think it might be coming from the federal level.

Re: Corns now illegal in NJ??????
Here's what I came up with:
http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wildlif...ingselling.asp
Quote:
The DGIF is now issuing permits to licensed pet stores and captive breeders for them to sell three species of captive-bred snakes ( 4 VAC 15-360-50): eastern kingsnake, mole kingsnake, and corn snake. No other snakes native to Virginia can be bought or sold in Virginia, and there are size limits as to what can be sold.
Quote:
4VAC15-360-50. Propagation and sale of certain amphibians and reptiles.
It shall be lawful to propagate and sell certain native species of captive bred amphibians and reptiles with a Permit to Propagate and Sell Certain Wildlife or a Permit to Hold and Sell Certain Wildlife under such restrictions and conditions as the board may prescribe.
Statutory Authority
§§ 29.1-501 and 29.1-502 of the Code of Virginia.
Appearantly, in VA, you need to hold a permit in order to sell cornsnakes and certain types of kingsnakes.
However, as far as private citizens are concerned, look no further to Title 4VAC of the Game and Inland Fisheries, amended July 1, 2006:
Quote:
4 VAC 15-360-10. Taking aquatic invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, and nongame fish for private use.
A. Possession limits. Except as otherwise provided for in § 29.1-418 of the Code of Virginia, 4 VAC 15-20-130, subdivision 8 of 4 VAC 15-320-40 and the sections of this chapter, it shall be lawful to capture and possess live for private use and not for sale no more than five individuals of any single native or naturalized (as defined in 4 VAC 15-20-50) species of amphibian and reptile and 20 individuals of any single native or naturalized (as defined in 4 VAC 15-20-50) species of aquatic invertebrate and nongame fish
That's VA...NJ would probably be different but similar I'm guessing. I'll poke around a little more when I get a few. Hope that helps!

Re: Corns now illegal in NJ??????
Mississippi you can own any type of snake that is found here. You can even keep 4 animals of any "Hot" kind up to 12 animals with a valid hunting license. So like 4 timber rattlers, 4 copperheads, and so on up to 12.

Re: Corns now illegal in NJ??????
Thanks for all the info guys. You gotta love NJ; we're supposedly in a fiscal crisis so they raised the sales tax one percent. Yet we have enough money to continue to pay people to determine what kind of pets we can keep. Oh and to keep track of the paperwork for permits.

From what I've read, it seems as if the state wants you to buy only from pet shops here. In order to get a permit you need to produce receipts. I bought my snakes at reptile shows and the last thing I thought of was getting receipts!!
Same here !!! I have been trying to get in touch with them because I have aquired more snakes and I need to update my permit. The mailbox has been full for months now and they are so far behind with issueing permits.
Even though the NJ Div. F&W website states that only those morphs of corn snakes are permitted, pet stores such as Petco sell other morphs such as Okeetee and Candy cane.

Re: Corns now illegal in NJ??????
Shhhi - tried to google Alabama DNR for you, and while I found it, didn't see anything in regards to reptiles that are legal to own there. Seems a LONG time ago, someone posted a link that had links to each state and what was legal. But I didn't bookmark it. Maybe someone else remembers?
Daniel - I believe you are right about the Kingsnakes as well - but then again - they do fall under the non-venomous (how the heck is that spelled anyway?) indigenous snake category that you can't own in GA.
