Re: What Would You Do?
I used to have problems at university, with a shared fridge in the dorm, people stealing my pizza.
Until I started always ordering my pizza with anchovies...I lub'em!
My suggestions:
- get a small lunchbox that will fit in the freezer or fridge that's lockable and put a small lock on it.
- take Lean Cuisine's out of their attractive boxes and put it in a old cruddy brown paper lunch sack (one that's been used) and hope the theif doesn't look inside.

My Stuffed Cabbage Lean Cuisines never get stolen - I eat one of those instead. And it's not even WHAT they stole, it's a thief of any kind that feels entitled to something that clearly doesn't belong to them that just boils my blood! No one seems to care either. I mean, they sympathize, but management has an "oh well" attitude about it.
My name is written on my lunch's, if you are hungry, didn't bring lunch, etc - all you have to do is ask - I'll gladly give it to you. It's not like you don't know who's it is!
Adam, I like your idea, however - they'd just take the ones that don't have that written on them.
I thought about taking one of those pizzas and carefully opening it, lifting the pizza and putting a frozen mouse under it. Or maybe make mousicle sandwiches.
They even go into people's lunch boxes, eat some of it and put the rest back in. It's pretty bad.

Raj, we have cameras all over the office, but none in the break room. And we have staff that works nights and weekends, so that would be a lot of hours to watch to find someone stealing my lunch.
We DID have a manager fired for stealing a honey bun off someone's desk a few months back! But there were witnesses. People thought it was the dumbest thing to get fired over a honey bun - but the point wasn't WHAT was stolen, just the fact that something WAS stolen with a blatant disregard for what anyone thought. If you'd steal a $.50 honey bun, what else will you steal?

Re: What Would You Do?
I had that crap happen..It is pretty low..Especially when you find out later it was the person who makes more than you do, and could afford to buy their own lunch...
Sodas are the worst to disappear from the workplace fridge. I had an ex-coworker who stole my picture frames from my desk!!!
Sodas are an easy fix though.. :) Take a break about just before lunch, go in and shake up a booby trapped soda..Let them open that bad boy!
As far as booby trapping the food...
I know Deals (everything for a $1 store) has these window alarms. They have batteries, and operate with magnets. You attach one side of the alarm to the wall, and one side to the window..when the window is slid to separate the two magnets, it emits a high pitched squeal...That, or I'd place a mouse trap, fake puke, snake poop, a roach, a dead mouse, dead rat that had popped open, brown recluse, or something equally as pleasant, in the seemingly unopened lunch.
Wonder if that could be a lawsuit?

Get a lunch box that you can fit a small padlock on. I know it's silly, but a little investment and you should be able to stop thinking about whether your lunch is stolen. It would be worth it to me. =)
Either that or get a little fridge for your office (if that's allowed).

Re: What Would You Do?
Don't have to worry about sodas being stolen, we have soda fountains (like the ones in convenience stores) for free soda.
Cass, I usually run up to the Kroger by the job and buy 2 weeks worth of Lean Cuisines and keep them in the freezer - never had a problem doing this in the other business unit I worked in (same company).
I don't have the freezer space at home to keep them and bring one a day to work. We, on the other hand at work, have tons of freezer space - five fridge/freezer combos.
We have a lot of temps that work in this business unit (manufacturing) and I think it must be the nature of the beast.

Re: What Would You Do?
Hmm... already a lot of good suggestions. How about opening up the package to expose the food then placing a post it inside stating "Licked for my protection".
Sorry, just reliving my youth when I had to compete with my siblings. :P My sister would actually spit on her meal to prevent us from eating it, but I think if I did that *I* wouldn't want to eat it either.

Re: What Would You Do?
Find a way to incorporate a nice dose of ex-lax into one of the meals and you shall soon find out who the culprit is....This person may think 2wice before trying it again.
We had someone stealing hamburgers at our factory. The person who kept having them stolen decided to find several cigerette butts off of the ground, put the nasty tobacco on the hamburgers and then put a piece of cheese on it and microwaved the cheese onto the hamburger. They dissapeard again....but that was the last time.
We also had someone taking this girls slim jims out of her lunch. She couldnt catch who it was so she bought Dog Jerky, puparoni's I believe it was called, and replaced them in the slim jim container. Well, they continued to dissapear. She thought it was funny that they were eating dog jerky so she kept doing it for several weeks. After a while she had to quit because she said it was putting a dent in her purse....
I know of a couple of others, but they are not age appropriate here....lol
