For my incubator, I am using an Acurite indoor-outdoor wireless therm. I have the sensor (roughly the size and shape of an egg) in the r-maid container with the egg. The reader I keep outside the Inc and it is easy to see the temp inside the container with the egg. It cost roughly $10 USD.

Acurites aren't very accurate or consistant. I've done more tests (I own about 10 or 15 of them) and in the same exact location Ive seen variances of 5 degrees between them....

It just seems wrong when you think your cool spot is 82 and it could be 77?

After that I realized I should just trust my t-stats controlling the room and flexwatt temps rather than the $10 acuwrongs :(

Edit: PS these are the wired ones, I havnt tried the wireless yet

All the Accurites are + or - 2 degrees even for the wireless ones. Thats a 4 degree variation, thats just nuts!!! With todays technology you would think you could find something a little more accurate without spending $200.

tell me about it. After how much the Accurites were mentioned on these forums, I was surprised when I tested and saw the variance. That being said I still use them as general guidelines, lets face it, for $10 I dont expect them to be within .1 of a degree, but i was VERY misled by the fact that they display tenths.... why the HECK would a thermometer say it is 75.1 degrees when it really meant, it is somewhere between 73 and 77?

It is like a scale saying my pastel weighs 298 grams when it really means it weighs 270-310 grams

the display in tenths is just, display resolution only. nothing to do with accuracy. personally i think it is just a marketing tool. most of the thermometers out there are accurate to 2-3 deg. that is good enough for most of our needs, imo. for incubation some might want a little more accuracy to double check the temps and stats.
