I just got one from Walmart for like 7.98 or so. I was wondering, im am going to be using aspen as a substrate, does anyone know about how many holes to drill to start off with? It is the 1986 model.

Start off with about 1 row of 10 or 12 along each long side and then on the short ends, do 2 rows of 2 for 8 holes total on each short side. That should give you a good starting point.

Ok, so it is all set up and the humidity is perfect. I am just waiting for the temps to rise up. Q: I have a ranco t-stat, what do you guys have your t-stat set at? My probe is hooked directly to the flexwatt.

sometimes with the rancos/johnson controls stats if you tape the probe directly to the flex, it will cycle on/off alot. i've had good luck using plastic wire ties and securing the probe inside the cage/tub. i would secure the probe down low next to or on the cage floor. set my stat to 90-94 and check and see what the temps are and adjust accordingly. alot will depend on room temp, how many vent holes, how big of a heat source, etc.

what are the room temps the tub is in? your cool side should not be any colder than your room? if in a colder room, you may need to get a 2nd uth for the cool side.
