Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
Unfortunately the store has the right to sell its animals to whoever they like. If it is policy then you can't get around it.
I am lucky enough to have found a ranch that supplies rats and mice near me and I can buy direct now. They just fussed at me about not having a tax ID. I was worried until he explained he would HAVE to charge me tax if I couldn't produce one. I was like "Duh!! Charge the tax dude! I didn't know you weren't!" Turns out they had been bc the regular person had asked me about it early on.
But at any rate, mine all eat live, I just never leave them with it unsupervised. I have 49 right now, and most of them eat right away, if they don't after a max time of 20 minutes I pull it out until next week. This way when they don't eat I haven't wasted a F/T and next week it will just be fatter than ever.
I know the bennies of feeding F/T but for me, live is more convienant, and it isn't about the thrill of seeing them kill. I get no thrill from it. It is not exciting to me to see it. It is just the snake eating. I am happy to see them eat.
I wish I could ship you live mice but I haven't a clue how one could even do that, and the shipping would cost more than getting those $5 mice.

So true ... I have found ways of dealing with shipping live rodents (I used to be a Herp store Maneger of keeping and husbandry of rodents. DuraPlastic is great for Shipping rodents)
I never leave my snakes alone with mice... my little female had a large rat in with her when I got her and he did a number to her...
Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
PetSmart prices their mice so high, because they are against what they perceive as cruel to the animals that they sell as pets (and their mice are being sold as pets). They figure that if they price them higher, they won't be a regular source for feeding snakes (or that's how I understand it). They also don't sell ball pythons.
PetCo - on the other hand does sell ball pythons and does sell mice at a lower price. Depends on the store - if you have a "good" reptile person working there, they don't give you much guff about buying feeder mice. If not, they tend to feel it's cruel too, and encourage you to buy their f/t instead.
They're still more expensive than a mom and pop run store. I need to get into the phone book myself and see if I can find another source, because mine just went up in price and won't give me discounts, despite how much I spend with them each week.
However, I must say, my little unexpected litter of mice is having me question if I shouldn't try to find room to breed a few litters - not necessarily enough to feed all my snakes each week, but enough to help supplement the cost some. At 14 days old, they are awfully cute! But not cute enough to feed off when they get big enough. For now, they've mostly been fascinating to watch their daily changes.

They have 2 locations 1 in Georgia and 1 in AL
Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
I had 15 litters. they really are cute.. I was just given a female breeder mouse. But I promised the little girl that I wouldnt feed her to my snake. It is a start. all I need is a male and Im set.
Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
That Mouse place ... it is a 5 hour drive from me. and a 8 hour drive to the one in AL.
This sucks...
Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
I'm sorry that you lost all those mice. But if you only have two snakes to feed...why not just go to any pet store and buy a male and female mouse, and start breeding them again? You would be honest in stating that those mice are not for feeding purposes. And your snakes can wait a few weeks for new mice if you can't find feeders any place else.
Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
Petsmart dosent cary males. I have to wait untill I get a car to find other places around here. I only go to petsmart because the gal nextdoor to me works there
Re: Any one living in GA around Atlanta please read. HELP!!!
I'm in toccoa Ga about 1 hr north of atlanta. I breed my own rodents for my collection. I don't know how many you are needing but I can probably sell you around 50 mice and however many rats you need. email me if you're interested.
