I know with how hard your looking that finding a puppy is hard, but think about the fact that it's spring and you are saying that. Sounds like a few more people are possibly being more responsible and having pets spayed. Usaully springtime the shelters are overflowing. Take your time and you will find that perfect puppy.:D

I never thought of it that way Wendy! It is pretty cool if there isn't so many unwanted puppies...that's a good thing! I just got a little ticked off at the ads in the newspaper for these crossbreeds that they are charging a bomb for....that part kinda ticks me off.

Hey now.. poodle lovers aren't all bad. I happen to like poodles very much.. and my aunt has a standard poodle that is one of the nicest dogs I know.

Now.. a $5000 puggle? That's sad. Puggles are (imo) ugly, and don't have the best temperament either.

Petfinder results for my zip code....3....only 3 pups....dang it

2 are husky crosses and I don't care for husky's around small kids

1 is a lovely 5 month old white GSD but marked NO KIDS

That leaves me with 0 to go look at...geesh! Back to the newspaper. :(

Another idea is to find a breed you like, and look up the 'parent club' on the AKC website. Then contact them about a breed rescue. For example, rottweilers have a parent club of the American Rottweiler Club, and there are tons of breed rescues for those dogs.

I run a provincial rottweiler rescue, and have two rescued rotties myself.

We're curently looking at a nice female pup, 12 weeks old or thereabouts....boxer x yellow lab cross. She basically looks like a boxer more than a lab, has a lil stub tail, boxes with her paws like a boxer but is retreiving balls like a lab puppy. We may adopt her today if our landlord can manage to phone the local Dog Warden and confirm we are indeed allowed to have a dog (hopefully before someone else snatches the pup up as they won't put a hold on her for us *sigh*)

I know labs well but have never dealt much with boxers. Any comments on that breed?

Boxers are super sweet. Lovely family dog in my opinion. They love kids and a lot of them dance by wiggling their butt when they're excited.. really cute.
