That's funny about dogs and cats, they started off just as wild as snakes...

You should have just given him a solid :groinkick and enjoyed the rewards!

I agree - I was picking up my feeders yesterday and was going to pay for them, and there was a lady also up there buying bird food (they specialize in birds and reptiles). She saw my critter keeper full of mice and the one rat and looked disgusted and said "do you have snakes?". I knew right off, she would not be receptive and just kept my answers simple. "Yes I do". "How many do you have?" - "Eight". "Why do you have so many?" - "I plan to breed them" (look of pure disgust that this young woman would keep, much less breed snakes). "And you're going to feed those cute mice to them?" - "Yup, I'll be feeding these stinky mice to them". "Poor mice!" I said "Lucky snakes!"

When she left, I commented to the guy working there - "wonder if she's worried about the cattle that are killed that allow her to eat beef?" LOL

People like that are looking for some type of "Affection or reaction to given affection" from their pets. People who own snakes and other reptiles view them as complex, wonderful creations and need no further joy to be returned. The simple act of exisiting is enough reward for the owner. Dogs and cats are great I own a few but I still love my reptile family members. I have the same argument with my Mom and Dad. They are like why would you want those they don't greet you at the door and love on you when you get home. My answer "I don't need them to".

Thanks for the support guys...cueball, you don't know how badly I wanted to......but then, how am I gonna pay for my pair of 100% het albinos w no job????/ LOL!!! Rabernet, I think the difference between the expirarion of a mouse for a snake's dinner versus a cow being killed for burgers is that the mouse gets to go to heaven a lot sooner......and Freakie Frog, looove the quote...."why would you want those they don't greet you at the door and love on you when you get home. My response to them greeting me at the door is this: "Snakes are wonderful animals. They're fairly clean, they don't get underfoot, I don't have to take them out at 2:00 A.M., they don't crap on the floor, they don't jump on the guests, and they just as affectionate (at least Ophelia is) as a cat or dog.

"Oh, did I mention I don't have to walk them?"
