Borrowing a friends yard occured to me last night... as I have a friend who has her own yard.

I was just very suspicious of taking them out. I agree that far too many are terrified of snakes, and---if they were anything like my mother---would demand instantly that I get rid of them because they don't want to live in a complex that has a snake infestation. So I settled for light coming in through the windows.... and will soon be taking them on a trip to see my friend ;)

I live in a place that ppl are scared to death of snakes. A few of my neighbors know I have them and the lizards, however, I do not take them out to public parks and the like b/c of the risk of exposure to pesticides and potential issues from ppl calling the law b/c they are scared of what they dont know. It is not worth it to me to have issues with the law here and cause other herpers to have issues b/c of a choice I may have made, such as taking my snakes/lizards out in public. As herpers, we have to realize the reptiles we choose to keep in our homes are not really the "norm" in society as far as accepted pets. My worry locally, is b/c there is a ban on pit bulls, even though there is no reason to justify that law, nothing on record that I can find... that bad "press" or publics exposure to my passion (reptiles) may cause a law to be brought to the books here just like it has happened in a town over from me. I dont want to have to deal with the ramifications that could result. We must also respect others out there who are not into herps, I realize we should have the right to take our reptiles out whenever and where ever, but its not gonna happen, not until herps are more accepted in society.

    I hear that.

I have a healthy respect for people who don't love snakes and geckos as much as I do. My mother is absolutely terrified of them. She refuses to stay at my place when she comes up because she thinks they're going to get out of their cages. I wish she liked them as much as I did so that I could share them with her... but, she respects my wishes to keep them---barely, sometime, but she does--- and I completely respect her wishes to never be around them.

All the snakes and geckos are kept locked up in my room. If someone wants to see them, they can ask. Otherwise, you don't even know they're there.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's paranoid about taking her snakes out.
