Are you going to get Fred probed?

I've heard a lot of stories locally where people were told that they were buying a male or female snake only to find out later that it was the opposite. Maybe you will find out that you got an even better deal if it is a female!

I wouldn't wait for a week to take Fred to the vet. The no handling rule should be implemented after he passes with a clean bill of health so he can start feeding regularly again with no worries about any other possible issues.

    Just my two cents. :)

oh yes, I'm going to get it probed. I'd very much like to know so I can put the sex in my records. I'm also going to make an appt time so that Dr. F can teach me how to do it safely. I popped Kishnah, but I know w/balls it's different. If this rescue becomes more of a regular thing, I'd like to know how to do the probing. :)

Yeah it would be nice to know how to correctly probe ball pythons...my little one still goes unidentified, however "shes" too fiesty to probe. Tries to tag me every time I clean her cage.

Snakes happen when you least expect them. ;) Even/especially when you're planning for them!

    Re: OHhhhhhh GOTTA SHARE!!! (UPDATE)
Soooo, "Fred" went to the vet this morning. Dopey meeeeeee, forgetting working, kid to school by 8:15 and vet @ 9:30 and trying to sleep, WHEN???

Any-whooooooo According to the vet's scale, Fred is only 960g even tho mine said 1020 last week. No mouth rot, good scale health, no mites. Even with the shed being in many, MANY pieces, nothing was retained, except one spectacle, and that came off very easily w/a little help.

Now comes the fun part  Fred is really "Fredericka" lol I'm still going to call her Freddie for short, but the male is actually female. Now all I have to do is wait for P Snake to get bigger, and maybe I can get some babies. :D

I'm looking into digi cameras so I can post pics of all the rest of the babies here. :) :) P***y was sold as a stripe, and Freddie has a stripe down the last foot or so of her tail. I like her pattern and would better enjoy getting breeding husbandry experience on normals instead of expensive morphs. *sigh*

Just an update. Even if I have to beg, borrow or steal, I hope to have pics of the rest of our snakey kids online SOON!

Jason, you're hilarious!!! :P I didn't disagree at all w/your suggestion of getting it probed. I'd much rather have KNOWNS than UNknowns. :) :) I may be getting bit in the behind by trusting the one particular breeder (w/P Snake) but the other critters I believe to be what they were stated as. As for CeCe and Oreo, I'll have them both probed once they're a little bigger, and I'll be taking Felix in for his "introduction" here soon.

I talked w/Dr. F. c. MY learning how to probe, and he was sort of flippant...you know......."Oh, there's nothing to it, you just pop, :blahblah: :blahblah:." That sort of thing. So I think my next "unknown" will be a vet visit where the vet watches ME do it. Then I'll get my own set and get some practice.

The funny part was watching Freddie leave piddle / musk / urates aaaaaaall over the scale as the vet was trying to pop her. hee hee hee :devilish: But I DID leave the vet a Freddie poo present. :D

Now that I'm getting quite the little slithery family, I need to come up with a better method of record-keeping. I'm using 3x5 cards, but have found that the feeding fills 'em up pretty fast, and the separate ones for "medical/vet" will just get lost in the shuffle of the individ. files. Hmmmmmmmmmm

    thx for listening. :)

Congrats on your new female BP! Nice find there! For record keeping we use the Degei program www.degei.com You can download it the evaluation copy and see if it works for you before you decide to buy it (very reasonably priced). The eval copy will do all sorts of things, though the full version unlocks the rack stuff plus breeding record keeping portions. I love my Degei and couldn't keep track of the scaley wonders without it.
