Remember to pick up a hydrometer also so you can measure the salt level of the water to about 1.008-1.010 Look for the Instant Ocean one, it has these measurements on it. Also, remember to NOT follow the directions on the IO box, those are measurements to make an ideal saltwater salinity...which would be bad for your little puffer.

When you get ready to switch him/her over to brackish I would suggest putting your freshwater in a fish bowl and then add him to it. Proceed to mix the salt into the main tank to the salinity of 1.008 or so, then put the little guy in a bag and float him in the aquarium. About every 5 minutes or so add about one cup of water to the bag from the freshly mixed brackish in your tank. Do this for a good hour, but the longer the better, and you and the fish will be set! :)

    Good luck.

Thanks ill keep looking for the instant ocean , i cant seem to find it at my local pet store, i think im going to petco soon (its like 1 hour away) and while im there ill look for it, im also planning on looking for some nice fake coral to make the tank look really nice.

I know people say it may take awhile to get them to eat the brine shrimp and blood worms (which by the way he hasnt seemed to interested in.....he only seems to go for them when i pinch the worms in the wooden tweezers and offer them to him like that.....if i just drop them in he wont go at them

Ghost shrimp however.....oh boy does he love those !!

He couldent live on a diet of ghost shrimp only could he ?

You could definitely feed him a diet of ghost shrimp, they are crustacean lovers by nature.

JBall, you said it.....forgot to montion the part about acclimation. Anyway, Brandon, I feed my leopard puffers krill.....they love it! And yes, you could feed them just ghost shrimp,,as they are naturally small crustacean eaters. If you are going to Petco, ask if they have any of those tiny "nuiscance" (sp?) snails in thier tanks they could give you. When I worked at Petco, I would clean the filter strainer in the plant tank, and there was always a bunch of these tiny freshwater snails in there. They come in by accident and just start multiplying everywhere!! I would periodically bring some home, and my little puffs would just gobble em' up!!
