Re: My BP is making alot of noises, acting weird to
Well, try the one piece of flexwatt and one thermostat (get the W/ 6 OUTLET
POWER STRIP one) and see how your cool side temps are. If you have a smaller cage it will be easier to heat (and actually feels more secure for your snake) baby and juvenile BPs are fine in a 10 gallon tank.. and even the biggest female needs nothing bigger than a 30 gallon long tank.
If you're not comfortable wiring the flexwatt yourself (it's very simple I just use a soldering iron and solder a small extention cord from home depot to the flexwatt) you can add on the 'crimped connection' ..Matt will wire it for you that way. Get a couple feet of foil tape to attach the flexwatt to the bottom of your tank too.

A thermometer that measures two sides of the tank at once will do a couple of things for you. First off, it will be a visual back-up to your t-stat and you will be able to tell at a glance if the t-stat is set up correctly and is doing its job. And second off, it will also inform you of the temperature in the other end of your tank, which is also important to know. The t-stat will shut off and back on to maintain a single temperature that you set it to, but it will not tell you what your gradient is.
The thermometer we've been talking about also measures humidity for you, and that is yet another important aspect of bp husbandry.

Here is a thread I just made with pics of my snake.
Update: yayo hasn't made any noises or signs of hard breathing or anything today except once earlier.. Last night he was doing it really bad though but I am still taking him to the vet tomorrow afternoon so I'll let everyone know what he says.

Re: My BP is making alot of noises, acting weird to
If you live in Orlando, my vet is supposed to be pretty good he's on some herp comittee or something and his specialty is snakes... He's at the Winter Park Veterinary Hospital right off of the lee rd exit on I-4 the number is 407-644-2676 and they do emergency visits. good luck

Re: My BP is making alot of noises, acting weird to
No offense, but you need to get the ball to the vet first then worry about buying stuff :( . RI is usually deadly... someone correct me if I am wrong. No offense and I'm not trying to scare you but you really need to get her to the vet see if she's gonna make it then based on that info get better husbandry/housing. I would be pissed regarding the pet store and I would try and get your money back if anything happens.
I bought my BP captive bread from a breeder who has been wonderful! If you ever buy in the future go to a reptile store at least, not just the pet store. I'm sure there are good pet stores out there but at least the Reptile store specializes and can "honestly" tell you how to care for the snake and you will be less likely to inherit a sick snake like you have.
Please no one be mad at me... just telling it like it is.

Re: My BP is making alot of noises, acting weird to
I think the vet visit is probably just as important as heating the tank correctly. Because without both, you're not going to get anywhere. If the tank is too cool, you'll probably have a slower healing snake. They need that heat to make their body work. Plus, the vet is a must since there is no curing a RI without antibiotics.
Best of luck at the vet, and getting things worked out. The biggest expense with a snake is usually the caging and heating. Once you have the environment correct (and the RI treated), then you should have a happy snake. ;)

Ok now dont blame me for this, because when I bought my BP they did not tell me any of this but I don't have a cool side or warm side... They reptile store I bought it from just said to keep the heating lamp I bought on for 8-10 hours a day. I have a glass tank and its 4 feet long and 13 inches wide, I think its a 40 gallon tank if I remember rite. I just was reading on here and people have humidifiers and things.. man if you can give me a link to where it says how to set up my tank rite I'd appreciate it. I figured when I bought it they told me all I needed to know..
Cassandra posted a photo of her tank set up in a thread called "Humidity problems and a stuffed snake" I think it is very helpful to someone who is new to herps and trying to get everything right. I know it has helped me out a lot in trying to figure out what I was doing wrong so I could fix it. IT's an excellent photo demonstration for the way a tank should be set up IMHO.

*blush* Thanks Gurgie...
My fiance and I set up our girls tanks. We kind of into the "overkill" method, but for an idea of how we set up our glass vivs with the correct husbandry, have a look at the guide Rick wrote (link below in my sig). Here's a pic of the setup:

Well since I have 0 hide spots, tomorrow im also going to get a hide spot on the left of the tank and one on the right, and I will move the water bowl to the middle of the tank. The sticks and branch things I will just have however it will fit. Im assuming the vet is going to be able to help me more about the humidity and temp. and can tell me which ones to buy etc.
Im so mad about this because when I bought the snake I asked the guy what I need to do for feeding it, taking care of it, the water bowl, lighting etc and he did not tell me about any of this. All he asked me was what temp. I keep my house and I said usually around 75 degrees and he said thats fine.
1 more quick question, Rite now my heat source is a lamp on top of the tanks cover and I was reading the BP's are nocturnal and shouldn't have more then 12 hours of light a day and the guy told me to keep the lamp on 8-10 hours a day so that should be fine im assuming.. but I might buy one of those red or different colored bulbs for it so that it will keep the tank not as bright.
IM GONNA GO CRAZY OVER THIS ESPECIALLY IF MY SNAKE DIES BECAUSE OF THE WORKER AT THE PET STORE!
Yeah, hide spot, humidity and temp are all key for a happy, healthy BP. Here's an example of my tank.

As you can see she has 2 hiding spots. Some moss to up the humidity a even though you can see them, 2 seperate lights. One for basking, and one for keeping the temp at a nice safe level, so it wont go too low, but she can also hang and not get cooked.
