Yup. Its a crap shoot for sure. Its worth it for me to wait a couple extra years rather than deal with the headaches

[QUOTE=jglass38]I'll give you a crisp new $20 bill for a couple of those females! :)

sure i'll take a 20, about a hundred of them for each girl!

you can find some good deals at local pet stores, classifieds, some rescues.

adam has said it before, " there are no shortcuts" that is so true. to build a really nice breeder base takes time and $$$. unless you hit the lotto and can buy someone's adult colony it takes time.

Gotta work on that whole lotto deal. :)

In Florida you can always find someone selling or practically giving away adult females. Up here, nothing...

i haven't been around that long but i know that quality breeder girls are like gold! no way would someone give away "quality" solid breeder girls. you know what they say "if it sounds too good to be true"

what you need to do is find a pre-law college student that works at a good pet shop! now that's a hookup!

At the expo there was a booth loaded with over 0.50 BP's ranging from yearlings to sub-adults (priced just at $25.00). Folks were just buying these gals like they were going out of style. He did have a warning posted and after I read it I realized these are fresh imports. I (of course) was in NO possition to render some advice to these folks but I wished them luck getting those gals acclamated!!!

I have a related in-breeding question. In my crazy dream of breeding pieds by doing with a het pied couple, would it be better to get a het female from one breeder and the het male from a different breeder, in hopes of increasing the distance in the blood lines? Or is that foolishness because they're all coming from the same great-great-great granddaddy pied (Pete Kahl?)?

Is that sort of thing something breeders think about? Just curious. =)

i don't see any problems with that all. on the flip side it couldn't hurt to mix the bloodlines either. alot of bigger breeders will have multiple morphs from different bloodlines, so finding an unrelated pair should not be a problem. and you can always trade out male hets with someone else you TRUST.
