Black milksnakes though are a neat snake. They start out tri-colored and then turn a beautiful black over time (one of the only snakes that changes color completely as an adult).
Black milks are great! I have a young pair about 6 months old, and they tend to be pretty wiry when they're young. I understand they're supposed to mellow out a lot to the point of "lap snake" when they get older, which will be a nice relief from the A.D.D. snakes that they are now. :D

I'm with Shelby, there's tons of gorgeous ratsnakes out there as well as BPs. :) Any one of them would make an awesome gift, depending on his preferences and how much you want to spend. If you're considering corns/rats you could even probably go off his favorite color!
