That's not unusual for rats to do. In fact smulkin has a wonderful pic/solution for that. Just make sure the edges aren't too sharp when trying this. ;)

Ah good idea... i just didnt think ahead.... now esmy is all wet from standing under the leaking bottle.

Im going to try to patch it up with some plastic wrap and tape, hopefully they didnt cost me another $2!!! P)

Kinda frustrated now because they are both acting skittish suddenly, after being so open the first few days.... does anyone have advice on taming skittish ratties? They will take food out of my hand, but if i move my hand at all they run away and freeze up if i stroke their backs.... kinda weird behaviour...... when they first came here they were as bold as could be (at least esmy was)

    bummer ;(

Smulkin had this problem. He was going through water bottles like crazy.

Then he came up with this idea: He cut the top off a soda can and turned it upside down on top of the water bottle.

Rat like any living critter have their moments. Somedays they just probably have rat things to do and can't be bothered with us silly humans LOL. If they are busy breeding (as in your female is perhaps currently in heat) they may just be more focused on nature than nuture right now. Just keep offering them treats and attention and they'll settle in. Once the female is preggie and you seperate them they will turn to you more for attention anyways as they need social interaction on a daily basis either from another rat or from you.

Oh btw, watch your female once she has her litter. Some females are fine, others can be quite aggressive and protective (especially for some reason albino female rats) when they are nursing their young.
