Re: First snake, Tank/Heat/Substrate/UTH advice
Welcome to the forum. The Acu-Rite comes defaulted to time, temp & humidity. If you push a few buttons you can get IN temp, OUT temp and humidity. The IN temp is read directly by the Acu-Rite unit itself, the OUT temp is read by the probe. One way to use the Acu-Rite is to place the whole thing on the cool side (either propped upright or velcroed just above the cool side substrate), then run the probe over to your warm side and tuck it inside the warm side hide. Then you can see if you are getting a nice thermal gradient of about 10 degrees (80-82 cool, 90-92 warm).

Yup thats how i ended up doing it.. The main unit is on the cool side near the edge and the probe is near the warm hide. 90-92 warm and 79-83
Still kinda unsure about humidity, I guess Id rather have humidity near 80 than near 30 :P
Re: First snake, Tank/Heat/Substrate/UTH advice
I'd drill a few more holes. Humidity that high will result in damp bedding and that can lead to belly rot. You are aiming for 50-60%. You can just add some more holes until you you get some more ventilation. That will bring your humidity down. I have a rack and during the summer it's so humid here so I have lots of holes in my tubs, and during the winter I seal them up from the outside to keep the humidity just right.
Re: First snake, Tank/Heat/Substrate/UTH advice
I have moved the water bowl over and am waiting to find out the humidity in the morning. The substrate is care fresh and that tends to keep the belly dry for the snake , absorbs anything from high humidity.
I will drill some more holes if that doesnt take care of it.. what would be considered the max humidity to keep it at without having to worry about belly rot? 60%? or 70?
I've given up on using the thermostat I bought for the UTH, as leaving the UTH on constantly never gets me above 92 on the warm side or 80 on the cool.
