There is little doubt that this forum does indeed have it's little cliques. It's not unlike high school in that manner and it is easy to see why some people feel like they're outsiders.


Having said that, this website is a valuable, valuable source of information and should be utilized if you want to provide the absolute best care possible for your snake. I think that one cannot allow themselves to be oversensitive to the fact that their post may not be getting quite as many comments as one of the 'insiders' posts. Doing so, frankly, jeopardizes the health of the snake. I say this because I frequent many, many reptile/boid related sites and this one, by far, focuses more on specific husbandry needs of the snake than most of the others. If nothing else, one can be a lurker and by using the search feature of this site, figure EVERYTHING out about raising a happy and healthy ball python. What a great sense of security it is to me to have this site bookmarked.

I sincerely hope that this post doesn't come across as bitter because I absolutely am not. I wanted to empathize with dennisthemenace while also pointing out the many virtues this community has to offer.

im use to more busy forums, but i still love it here... during the day you usually get a reply from someone who can help pretty quickly.. its the not amount of responses, its the quality of the information in them.

Hello all,

As my first post here I would like to add what may be a hasty generalization. Many new to the forum or the snake world quite often have the same questions and concerns about snake info and many of these have already been addressed in older threads, so I don't blame the advice givers for not wanting to spew out the same info over and over, that's what stickies are for, as well as our search feature.

I've found that this site is by far my favorite source for not only quality information, but lack of drama playing out, and a large number of friendly and knowledgeable staff and members who do not display much of the arrogance I've seen on some other forums.

Just my two cents, now I'll step off my soapbox

no one made any remarks about the quality of service. Without a doubt this is of the best Herp forum out there if not the best. Im basing this statement on my personal experience with Kingsnake.com and reptileforums.com. There are a lot of experienced members who are willing to help out, but sometimes the help doesnt come soon enough. In my case ive never posted anything that was in dire need of feedback but you never know when that day will come. The original issue was the ratio of active/dedicated members vs. the non-active on lookers. Thats how we witness odds such as 5 to 100 or 22 to 350. I think everyone is perfectly capable of putting in their 2 cents as a result making this forum a slightly more welcoming place for the new comers and making this a closer knitcommunity.

Just because you didn't mean to give any offense, doesn't necessarily mean that NONE was taken by someone.

Everyone has their threshholds and buttons that get pushed. PPl should be mature enough and act accordingly.

I've enjoyed the comraderie here and the assistance given to my questions and comments, from newbies and old-timers alike. I spend MUCH more time here than I should considering my life right now, but I always find it enjoyable and worthwhile for learning.

as far as the view/post ratio, you have to understand that not everyone has an answer or input to give for every question. people that don't have input aren't going to reply, thus making the view count higher. also, you have to consider that if you get one answer, that is a complete and correct answer, there is no need for others to reply with the same information. we try to strive for quality, not quantity, and honestly i think that our members get replies (and good ones at that) to their threads super fast, sometimes within minutes. what more can you really ask for?

this thread should get closed because its not going no where .. and we are just constantly going back and forth. I think everything has been clarified and we are good to go.

If I can just add....

It's a huge pet peeve of mine when:
A.) Someone doesn't KNOW the answer... they just HEARD the answer from someone else, and are just "regurging" it.
B.) There's already three replies (all fairly similar in advice) and the fourth person responds with the same exact advice... (many hours later of course)

This could be another reason why the views to posts ratio is not what you'd "like" it to be.
