Re: Happy Friday the 13th
Elevators don't bother me.. I am only mildly claustrophobic.
Scary movies don't scare me.. it's a real rare one that gives be any sort of creepy feeling at all. I do enjoy them however.
I do have a fear of drowning.. but I love swimming (especially in lakes and the more animals I see the better!) and diving. I almost drowned in a pool when I was 7 so that didn't help..
Re: Happy Friday the 13th
I have this ridiculous, embarrassing fear of june bugs. You know those big flying beetle things....yeck...blech...shiver! If I see one I can't stay outside and my skin just crawls. No idea why I'm so freaked by them other than I've had pretty long thick hair most of my life and have had them get caught and tangle in it when we've been camping so perhaps that's it. Pretty silly really for a grown woman to be morbidly afraid of a big stupid bug isn't it LOL.
I used to have a real fear of spiders but made myself deal with it so I didn't pass it on to my kids though I still can't get quite past the fear to enjoy the unique beauty of tarantula's.

Re: Happy Friday the 13th
okay, so here's my getting over the fear of spiders story. i was terrified of them and living in a basement suite with my daughter... and pregnant with another. i was on the phone with a friend and saw a shadow on the side of my bed... so i went in, turned on the light and looked around. ended up lifting up the mattress and there... on the boxspring was the biggest freakin' spider i've ever seen!!! it's leg span was 8" - and i was the only adult in the house... so, i got out a tupperware bowl for cereal and put it over the spider... thank the goddess, it didn't try to move cause i would crapped that baby outta myself right then and there!!! when i put the bowl over it - it's legs were sticking out of the sides cause it was sooooooo freakin' big!
so i got a piece of cardboard and picked up the spider... flushed it down the toilet and then filled the toilet up with bleach and put a brick on the lid... thinking this would keep it from returning (*i know i know... stupid*)
so then after i get calmed down as i'm screaming and freakin' out the entire time... my friend says, "oh man, do you think that was the mama spider or the papa?"
well, fortunately i moved 2 weeks later and let me tell you... i ripped my bed apart every night before i got into it!
after that... no other spider compared, so - since this one never ate me...i figured i was safe from the rest LOL
and VOILA! no more fear of spiders!

:eyepoppin I think I would have needed to be excused from that class on account of needing to rock back and forth in the fetal position in the hallway. :dead:
Didn't figure there'd be many animal phobias around here (or present phobias, that is, way to get past your arachniphobia, RG & Jo!) ;) I agree that bees are a pretty rational concern. Specially if you don't know if you're allergic to them or not. Would rather not find out. I'm often amazed though at how many people who aren't so familiar with critters as the people on this forum will be afraid of herps and birds so readily. I've known people who'd run from a cockatiel or parakeet that would walk up and pet a strange stray dog big enough to do some real damage if it really wanted without batting an eye. Phobias are strange and impractical like that.
Also... My Mom always buys a couple of lotto tickets on Friday the 13th for luck. ;)
