hey denis, if you really want a ranco(single or dual) i'll get one to you at cost. they cost me about 51.00 a piece plus whatever way you want them wired. helix is way better and should be around the same as a dual ranco.

I have a regular herpstat, and it has a nightdrop... the output wattage is a little higher on the II, and I'm sure there's some other advantages that I haven't researched much. Check out Matt's site, I'm sure he has lots of info on Herpstat/Herpstat II. :) http://www.mgreptiles.com

Oh hush Adam... If you want to buy me a Helix, I would gladly use it :)

The difference between the HS 1 and the HS 2 is that the HS 2 is a dual t-stat combined into one unit. I like it and it does a good job. Keeps temps wonderfully consistant(within .1 or .2 degree). I only use it on Amani's tub to keep both sides at a constant 95 and 84. It is more expensive, but it saved me money not having to buy two Helixes or two Herpstat 1's. Know what I mean, Vern? :)

Sorry to be blunt, but they are very cheaply made and a bunch of doodie. I've heard of them sticking in the on position and frying the heating element it is "controlling", causing a fire, or in the off position it sets your snake up for an RI if you don't catch it in time.

I prefer to stick with something reliable and much more consistant than those. I used one once and after that I could have just pulled my hair out. It was incredibly inconcistant... It just seemed dangerous that that itty bitty thing can control 1000 watts...

    * Warning! Warning * I did something like that too, because I couldn't go w/a bigger unit, and ended up frying one! AAAAAACK!!!! Such a saaaaaaad way to find out it wasn't good enough!

Now I've got bigger, better t-stats on everything, and am looking at a means of keeping electricity/heat, when our power goes out.
