Small dish washing tubs work well, too. or the lower ~third of a 5 gallon bucket

do you guys feel a top or side hole is better? how much extra space should be in the hide once the snake is in there?

what is a good way to keep the hide very humid because I am having a low humidity issue in my 10-gallon tank with a heat lamp, only able to keep humidity in the 30-35% range..

Wow, i use alot of Different hides.

For my smallest snake (the little sonoran gopher) i use PVC pipe and a small coconut cut in half with a small hole for an entance.

For the corn i use the small black cubbyhole and her waterbowl is also a hide

For the balls i use the large cubbyholes and corona beer boxes

And for the boa i use the medium black cubbyholes

i like top holes, i use a big soup can and trace it out and cut. for smaller hides i drill a 2 inch hole in the tops. i think it might be a tad more security with all the sides intact. and i copied nerd's top hole design lol

I use side holes with no problems. Easier for me to cut.

The hide box should be as tight fitting for the snake as possible. A roomy one isn't a very good hide spot.

For humidity, you'll want to make a separate humid hide box. Do a search on this site and you'll get a lot of threads.

wow, thank god I just bought myself an Accu-rite temp gauge with the prob, on the hot side off my 10 gallon tank up against the back wall it was reading 85 degrees so I kept thinking I needed MORE heat. Then tonight when I hooked up the Accu-rite and put the probe directly under the heat lamp area ontop of the Aspen it was reading 100-105 degrees, WOW! No wonder my snake was lying against the glass all day today! So I now moved my heat lamp up higher above the cage and I am getting around 82-85 degrees now at the probe and the snake seems to be moving around more tonight, so I think that's a good thing!
