Wow, I never knew much about these, & after reading up a bit, I personally wouldn't want one either. ;) Much more defensive/aggressive & unpredictable than the typical domestic rats I've kept- now I see why you were worried about losing a finger or something- yikes!
I can remember reading an article where actor Ernest Borgnine talked about making the 1971 horror movie "Willard" with the rats- as I recall, they smeared him with peanut butter, so the rats would lick him & appeared to be eating him in the story- and he said none of them bit him- just gently licked. That's the experience I've had with tame pet rats too. ;)
