the uth is under the newspaper..There are about 4 thickness of paper on top of the uth. I have the newpaper taped down so Jackson can't crawl under it. :-)

The undertank heater needs to go on the OUTSIDE of the enclosure. If your snake spills his water somehow, he could get electrocuted.

I use flexwatt on a proportional t-stat and have no problems getting the proper ranges. I have the probe resting on the inside of the enclosure inside of both hides and the temperatures never fluctuate. I also am using aspen for bedding with no newspaper underneath it, and don't have any problems.

Please get the UTH out of the enclosure for the sake of your snake. They are not meant to be used that way(unless it is a Kane).

Oh ok! Much better. That's good to know.

If you want to retain humidity, put Con-Tac paper(the sticky patterned paper you put on the inside of cabinet shelves) over the entire lid, leaving just a big enough circle for the lamp, and 4 trangles cut out at each corner. That will help keep the humidity in but will allow enough air flow. You can also use Glad Press N'Seal or SaranWrap. Even a black garbage bag cut to fit and taped on looks nice enough.

If you want to keep heat in, go to Home Depot and get a panel of the 3/4" styrofoam insulation. Then cut pieces to fit the sides of the tank and tape in place. This will help reflect the heat back into the tank.

OR you could just switch to a rubbermaid/sterilite/iris tub and be done with all of it, LoL. :)
