Aspen mulch

I like using aspen because it has a kind of wood smell to it. once our big bag of aspen mulch is all out then we're getting coconut husks! but Aspen (in my opinion) is a good cheap starter bedding, but you have to mist it sometimes to keep up humidity, I also have a humidity box he can crawl in for when he's in shed. I've also seen people take a wet towel squeeze out the water and drape it over the terrarium for more humidity!

I live in Mississippi and have had more issues with mold using coconut husk substrate than aspen. I can get either option to work for me but I change depending on the season and personal preference at any given time.

During the summer aspen works great and I often don’t even need to mist during sheds and have no problems.

True, if you live in a super humid and warm climate, aspen probably would work better. I forget about that having never lived anywhere that gets over 60% unless it's raining, which is exceptionally rare here.
