    What's the life span on these anyway? About 20+ years? I wouldn't think their growth would slow down at 3 years...heck, that's "prime time". Anyway, this genie is out

    Diamond is an interesting thought. Next to a Boelen's python, one of my absolute favorites that I have never seen in person. Jewel definitely keeps surprising!

    Actually they can live well beyond 20 years. That said the rule of thumb with most boas and pythons is that their growth slows significantly after two years and after 3-4 years it slows to barley noticeable in most cases.

    I'm seeing a major surge in growth after 6 years. This snake was stuck at the 7 foot mark for quite a while, and suddenly I'm measuring approximately 8 feet.

    While snakes grow throughout their lives, seeing noticeable and significant growth after 3-4 years is not the norm.

    Jewel doesn't eat much either, so the spurt isn't food induced.
