Re: How often do you handle your snakes?
So here is the thing im a fairly new snake owner no problems at all, but after getting both my ball pythons off of live mice onto f/t rats to such a point where i can feed both like clock work.

Here is the thing i have noticed, temperature of the meal must be on point. I haven't had a refusal since and used a very interesting technique to switch the snake from live to f/t and worked like a charm, but thats a story for a different day, but because of this I only handle when cleaning , not even, I open the enclosures and let them come out by themselves. Normally i just lift the hide. This is enough to wake them and get them moving. Once im done cleaning i need to pick them up to put them back , so the actual handling is less then 5min twice a month.

I take my KSB out about twice a week, once for feeding and once for :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:s and grins and because I love letting him slither around. He doesn't seem to mind.

I handle my snakes infrequently. They come out for cage cleaning and photos, and that's about it for the most part. I hold my younger animals more frequently than my older animals, just to get them used to being touched and to monitor weight gain and such. But in general, I try to let them do their thing. They eat like champs and have no issues, and that's really what's most important to me.

For me, it just depends on the snake. The younger ones get handled more frequently as long as they’re eating, but my wife and I also have a couple of adults we handle at least twice a week. Those are our “therapy noodles” [emoji28].

Most of my handling time has recently been spent working with our new Retic though. I’d rather get her socialized before she gets too big to do so. Plus, most of my adult female balls are gravid right now anyways.
