    I would go with a crested gecko, but get them used to being handled before your kids latch into them. My daughter is excellent with ours and she is only four...she loves it when they jump onto her shirt and crawl up. They are fun animals and don't require a extensive menu or high temps. They come in different colors and phases too. A fun FIRST gecko they are.

    i would get a leopard gecko (im getting one on christmas and its my first reptile)( well my brother has 2 pythons)
