Royals are a doddle providing you get yourself a good eater .

As regards humidity, just use something like orchid/Repti bark which holds moisture well and spray occasionally..

As long as you spray well during the shedding period you’ll have no issues with sheds .... in my experience

It's extremely dry where I live and spraying doesn't do much. My house's humidity is usually around 25%. I used to have a BP and I tried the wet towel thing, spraying with water, moving him away from the window, but it was always around 50%.

My favorite species to own is the Ball Python. I’ve been around a lot of my friends pet snakes but by a land slide my BP takes the cake. Owning him was a challenge sometimes because of the fasting occasionally but it was manageable. I could go on for days of the pros of owning a BP. If we are talking favorite over all snake species I would probably say Black Mamba.

Did you try switching to a tub? In the winter my house's RH is 10-15% but I had no problem maintaining 80-90% humidity in my BRB tubs.

No, when I had him I kept him in a glass 40 gallon. If I get another I may try a tub!

Mine would be the Emerald tree boa. Just my opinion, but they are the most beautiful snake. I remember seeing one as a kid at the Atlanta zoo and was just fascinated. Always wanted one in my younger days but fortunately never got one. Their was no info for the common keeper, no one understood the conditions needed for them to thrive in captivity back then (internet was not around). But here is a snake that when very young is bright orange with white, then completely changes color to a deep green. Doesn't get any better than that. :gj: They are not a "holding" snake, but I'm good with that

Well since you mentioned "snakes that aren't for holding" Bodie, I'll confess that I adore rattlesnakes too...but I've been trying hard not to be a bad influence,
& it seemed as if the question was really geared toward keeping hands-on pets-?

Thats a tough question. I think I would have to choose Brazilian Rainbow Boas. Love the colours and the irradescence on them.

Boas and Ball Pythons come closely behind. My first Boa was a basic Pastel. Very basic morph but stunning animals, made me fall in love them.

What substrate??

The key time is shedding time so spraying a few times daily as soon as the eyes clear results in perfect sheds in my experience.. mine are heated by flamin ceramic lamps which are a nightmare as regards humidity
