Re: New member(s) and the San Jose Reptile show
I went today.
Very cool! It was my first every reptile show. I was the guy with the shirt that says:
Only when the last tree is cut down, the last river damed and the last plains paved will we learn that we can't eat money.
I unfortunately didn't get any herps. I checked out the snakes. ALL of them. They were at least 7 baby Yellow Annies for sale and one adult.
They were a good amount of Burms in the area. Mostly babies. I am glad to say that when a kid asked his mom if he could have it the owner of the area told them the potential length of the Burm.
Oh and there was Peaches the Albino burmese python. Anyone remember him?
I really got to see how beautiful geckos were for the first time.
I also saw my first morph ball python. It was a Nerd Lemon Pastel Ball Python. Real cool. The only other morph I could find was an Albino ball python.
At LLL reptiles they had LOTS of snakes. Rectics, Burms,ETB's, Hogg Island Boas, Sumatran Bloods and Borneo Bloods.
I held a Baby sumatran blood. The person there asked if I was sure if I wanted to hold it because she said it might bite me. I said I was okay with it.
I held it and a approached it in a calm matter. She got all scardish and told some little kids to back off from me. It stayed in my palms quite calm in relaxish/inquisitive position. Then my dad came and he said "What snake is that?" I think he moved his hand by its face to quick and startled the blood python becuase it struck ,but missed when it tried to bite him.
Also very cool Tortise in the back. I forgot its type but it had a spickyish shell and its name was "R?????? Tortise".
I also like the chameleon display. There was this sign that said look up ^. So I did and there was chameleons on brances above. Uber cool. My brother handled a chameleon. I wasn't sure what type ,but it wasn't a Panther cameleon.
Re: New member(s) and the San Jose Reptile show
Cool! Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like there are lots of us in this area. Anybody in any local clubs they enjoy?
Marty and Veronica got to hold the 5 year old yellow conda. I've got pix I'll post here some time. I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that yet?
So! The big news for us is we got a new friend at the show. We got a 3 month old Rainbow Boa. I'm sure you saw Dave Collings' booth, with all his babies, all perfectly documented and hand cared for. My daughter Veronica got to choose any snake she wanted (within reason, of course). She was really thinking corn snake, but Marty and I peer pressured into a boa instead. We've named her Cha Cha.
She's great! She ate a hopper last night. Waaaaay different feeder than my adult ball python. She's ferocious!!! We're so excited.
Re: New member(s) and the San Jose Reptile show
yah i saw that albino burm was it for sale that place was cool
Re: New member(s) and the San Jose Reptile show
I wuved those rainbow boas. Insane irisidence. Was the conda aggressive? You meant the 5 year old female right?
Re: New member(s) and the San Jose Reptile show
Yeah, the five year old female. She was very docile and sweet. Very nice girl...

Re: New member(s) and the San Jose Reptile show
Welcome Aboard!!! I probably won't get the chance to ever attend a "big" reptile show, but just last Sat. there was one in the local area, that my FD and I got to go to. I had to give up some sleep in order to go, and then head right to work right after it, but we had a BLAST!! Lots! of babies of all kinds to chose from. Got the chance to see a Dum pair IRL, some bloods and a Columbian RTB. Now I have a better idea what my biggun' will be. ;) A bunch of the baby BPs and a baby Hoggs Isle that I slobbered over.
But, I did go ahead and make the arrangements to get a stripe male. Yaaaaaaaay! I CAN'T WAIT :( until Sat. to take delivery on him. < I'll post pics as soon as I get my home PC set back up. :bleh: It's a drag not having access at HOME! > His tank is all set up and waiting. I have the chance to get a 100% het albino male too, but I'm afraid that one will have to wait. Waaaaaaaah! :( :(
FD got the chance to look at all the different colors/patterns/morphs of the corn and kingsnakes. That's what SHE wants, and I'm working really hard to get it set up so that it can be a surprise for Christmas! :D Maybe I'll be able to swing the finances next month for the het, too! Hmmmmmmmm :hmm:
Glad to have you and the kiddles!!! Great to see another loving parent out there teaching their kids and others that snakes aren't the horrid creatures ppl make them out to be.
