We love ceremic heat emmiters over here. But I would never, ever suggest one in the cage, your snake will thank you if you are able to find a way to build a better top and utilize a ceremic exterior lighting system. Those bad boys get very hot. They are great for room size enclosures and ambient temp up keep. I really wouldn't use one inside a cage. Just get an under tank heater for now. They are cheap and very usefull.
    Just my two cents

I have already got a UTH to keep the belly temps up. I would be able to recess a whole in the wall and put one of those metal dome covers over it to direct the heat into the cage. How well do those direct and keep heat? I can either do it that way or in the cage with a screen around it. If I put it outside the cage, I'd still put screen over it, of course. Which do you think would be better- outside the cage with a screen covering it, or inside the cage with a screen cage around it?

Never mind my last post. I decided to go with it in the cage. It was a wire caging around it and has no sharp edges.:)

Wouldn't the cage around the bulb be extremely hot?

Nope. I got it hooked up to a thermostat, and it doesn't need to be on that long. The only place where it does get warm is around the outside of the circular part (where it is closest), but I can hold my hand there forever. Once it turns off, it cools down quickly.:D
