Im not sure I can see the full instruction manual online but I know with mine they have a "hysterisis" setting that keeps the unit from shutting on and off constantly. I normally set mine at 3 degrees difference and it does fine. Not sure if there is a setting on that one for that. Sorry I couldn't be more help..

Perhaps both of mine are faulty?

I would doubt they are both faulty. Like I mentioned before I just don't know anything about those stats.. All of mine are VE.. I was hoping you found a hysterisis setting on it somewhere..

Probably not. It more likely has to do with how the probes are set up and how well whatever they're touching conducts heat or moves it away.

A probe hung in air will take longer than one pressed against a heat source between glass under the tank, for example. Most of mine I use UTH sandwiched with insulation foam, so that probably keeps it steadier at reading and reacting to the temperatures.

I doubt they have one for that. Whaf I remember of the instructions said it shuts off and turns on on it's own, and I want to say it was supposed to swing about 2, but as I said in my other reply, it likely has more fluctuations depending where it is measuring and the surroundings. (Air vs foam vs wood table vs heat mat)
