Glad you've chosen to separate your snakes.. the 'cuteness' is only in our eyes.

You could keep one (preferably the bigger one) in the big fancy 55g and set up the other in a sterilite type tub.

It's great you are taking the combined wisdom here to heart and doing what is really best for your two snakes. If cost is a major factor (and most of us can relate to that) I would also suggest a solid barrier in the tank until you can provide them with seperate tanks. It might not be the ideal situation or very pretty but if it serves the purpose of seperating them until you can get another enclosure set up I'd say go for it.

I've never divided a larger tank though so perhaps others with more experience could advise you. We've always used Sterlite tubs with our ball pythons and again not the prettiest of setups but oh so easy to manage as far as temps and humidity.

I'm already one step ahead. Yesterday i got a piece of cardboard and wedged it in the middle of the cage. But i poked a few holes in it so humidity and heat and air and whatever else could circulate back and forth. Of course one has the light and the water dish and the other gets the good hide and the heating pad but i got a little Petco carrying box to make another hide and a bowl of water for the one without the dish. I hope this holds them over till i've gotten everything set up.

I really appreciate all the feedback. I feel much more confident as a snake owner now.
