Too Much Appetite??

I also have one that loves to eat, Piper, my pied. If you get near the cage, if the cage door opens, if somebody else is eating, doesn’t maater....she wants to eat. I’m reasonable sure she thinks she’s a boa because she has none of the finicky issues that bps are known for or that I have in others of my collection.

I got a guy getting around three years old now. Always hungry, was sure he’d skip some this winter. But he seems to be constantly hungry. Enjoy it while it lasts, lol.

A good problem to have, I'd say.

Just got my big female pastel to start eating after 7 months of fasting... so, yeah, enjoy it while it lasts indeed. :rofl:

My BP's both are fantastic eaters. Both also stay in feed mode for 1-2 days after a meal. I keep my snake hook handy and get them to relax if I want to get them out on the second day. Its actually been almost 3 days since I fed Aspen and he's still locked and ready when I open the top. Once he realizes I don't have food though he backs down. Rei because she's bigger I always make sure to snap out the feed-mode before I get her out or even put my hands near her. Lol.

I too was conditioned about BP's being picky from day 1, but both of mine have done fabulous for me. Aspen switched to F/T without a hitch, he's going to be on rats soon. I have leftover weans I got from an Expo last year, he can eat some of those.
Definitely wouldn't say a very noticeable appetite/feed mode is a bad thing.

Yes, exactly! It's like everything I've read about a BP's typical behavior doesn't exist with Monty. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely NOT complaining. lol It's been pretty amazing, TBH.

Same here. Monty has eaten without a single issue from day 1 (knock on wood). I have about 20 lg. adult mice to finish up then I'm switching him to rats.

Glad to hear yours is doing well.

My Astrid will eat pretty much anything I give her. I have had issues getting appropriately sized rats locally, so sometimes I have to give her 2 mice. She doesn't seem to care about temperature. I have had her from a 60g hatchling, and she is pretty much always looking for food.
