Heating a large tank

There’s a couples of ways to put a che inside a cage with screen top, I would put some holes where the light fitting will go and instead of screws use thin bolts and nuts to hold it in place then put a heat guard around the emitter

And you know the day bulb on the right needs to be off at night right? Or you can replace the day bulb with a night (red,blue or black light) bulb to leave it on all the time. Or of course you could use another CHE.

That cage is really nice, and like you said, if it was for the right price, I’d have a hard time passing up on it to. But thinking about the health and safety of the animal, I would save that enclosure for an aboreal species, and find a new enclosure with a 12”-18” height for your BP, if at all possible. The 36” x 18” footprint is great though. Like others have said, that’ll help out your problem with uneven heating. As far as climbing goes, mine loves to climb when hes out at night, so I do give him the option to climb, but not too high because his total inability to balance when climbing.

Okay. Thanks to everyone for so many replies and suggestions. So to address a few questions, the uv bulb on the right side is for the plants in the tank, and is on a timer so it is only on for 8 hrs a day. I ended up completely removing the che on top. I decided it was too much of a risk (getting too hot on top) and was not adequately heating his hide on the hot side of the tank. I ended up taking Craig's suggestion and installing a radiant heat panel on the side of the tank, and using heat cable on the bottom to create a hot spot/hide of 88 degrees, and a cool side on the 70s.

I also wrapped the sides and top of the tank in some styrofoam pieces on the outside to insulate it for the winter. I live in northern wisconsin, and temps this week are predicted at -15 for a high this week. The foam should help keep him nice and toasty. :)
