I am expecting a "package" any day now ... as a new snake owner I am glad I read this thread, now I know what I am in for LOL ;)

... couldn't be any worse than when Marzipan leaves me a steemer in the litterbox first thing in the morning. With a wake-up call like that, who needs an alarm clock?

Okay, that was crude and I must apologize ... sorry folks :)

If you check daily (meaning morning & evening) you shouldn't be too slammed by the smell. The longer it's left to "ferment", the stronger the smell.

Kind of silly to mention but remember when you are checking to check their hides as well. Some of our snakes never defecate in their hides, others do it regularily in there so it's easier to miss on daily checks.

Mine ALWAYS poops in the hide. Always on the warm side too, so if he goes after I've gone to bed or gone out for a while or whatever, it gets to warm up for hours and smells just LOVELY. I'll know he went just walking past the room. Thankfully once the newspaper is swapped out and things are sanitized, there's no hint of the smell. Good thing too, sometimes the smell is just wrong.
