    Have two of those and first one did exactly what yours did. I did get a replacement that has worked fine. But as I can afford it I’m getting VE thermostats. I don’t trust the Century although they work as expected

    I agree with Deb - you get what you pay for and in the long run the Herpstat (I have 2 of them) and Vivarium (I do not use) are a good investment and the cost is negligible over the course of a few years - would use use a heating pad for yourself that defaulted in the on/high position if it failed?

    If he is setting the thermostat to 88 celcius that would allow the heat pad to stay on till the temp reading of Fahrenheit is 190.4 which is why the heat pad would stay on till hitting it's max temp. I doubt it would heat up to 190.4 but would get to 134 so El-Ziggy gave good advice if he is setting it on celcius but reading his temps with a fahrenheit thermometer say an infrared.
