I thought about suggesting either a hognose or sand boa, but even using it for plants would be cool.
I sorta figured why you use the 'name' you do but I "went there" anyway. ;) When I lived in the desert southwest (many years) I kept a local (harmless) tarantula,
a large female, out of curiosity for about 6 months, then re-homed her, as I had a house-full of snakes that interested me far more. But they're easy enough, even
if you don't want to handle them. (I didn't go out & capture her, btw.) I've kept local (also harmless) scorpions in the past too...never had a hermit crab though...
I've thought about a preying mantis before but haven't kept any...yet?
Anyway, you don't want to run afoul of your landlord. I assume she/he is spider-phobic (?) as they're not escape artists (unless you bred or receive "babies", yikes!)
Years ago a co-worker brought me a golden-huntsman spider because they "figured I must like spiders if I liked snakes so much?" She lived about 2 years* & during
that time gave me babies that I released; I offered her release & she declined, lol: I mostly fed her small mealworms that cluelessly crawled thru the screen on top
of her cage...& right into her mouth, lol. (*natural lifespan)
Re: New pet ideas (help wanted)
I have hermit crabs and really like them. They're not difficult to take care of, even done properly- it's just a lot of small maintenance. They get up to all sorts of high jinks that are fun to watch. They're definitely not a simple throw-away pet and do need love and attention just like anything else. I would say they're roughly equivalent, maybe slightly higher maintenance than a python.
hermitcrabparadise.com OR myself are good resources for research ^_^

they do sound interesting i will do some more research on them later. i assume you need to get bigger shells for them as they grow (or am i thinking of a different crab?) if so where would you get empty shells?

For starters, I've seen them in Petco, Fosters & Smith online, & Chewy has this: https://www.chewy.com/flukers-medium...owth/dp/129155
But the 'best' way is a trip to the islands, with hours of beachcombing...sand in the toes, swimming & playing in the warm surf....:D (don't forget the shells)
