I've never heard of the "uric acid" theory but another thing that occurs to me is some sort of parasites under the skin? Hope not!

I had not considered that... well, Google, here I come.

That's why forums are cool, putting many ideas & experiences together...

Re: Abnormal lumps or overreaction?
I am still not coming up with anything! It's not discolored at all, it doesn't move or "squish" when touched. She obviously has an appetite... I'm at a complete loss. It almost reminds me of hives from an allergic reaction, but lacking the redness? Can they even get hives? Didn't find an answer to that either.

Almost a week later, still haven't figured out what's going on.

I just don't know.

I don't suppose you asked the breeder you got her from?

I have but haven't received any reply from him.

Re: Abnormal lumps or overreaction?
Finally got a response from the breeder. Can't say that it was really much help.
First he stated that it was normal and it comes and goes. However, he also stated that he has no idea what causes it, but is not a health issue.
Then said that maybe it was about to go into shed or dehydrated.
Now I can 100% cross those last two out. Like I said, not much help, though I do appreciate his response.

Well, you tried...but I didn't figure he'd really own up to knowing about it, though I bet he DID know. Dehydration sounds possible, seller probably didn't keep the
water bowl filled reliably but won't admit it. See if it starts to go away in the next couple weeks, with plentiful food & water?

I had contacted him a day or so after receiving her asking about her wait. Her weight vs age ratio just did not make any sense. I've seen hatchlings a week old that weighed more. It was honestly the first time I'd heard of the "maintenance fed" term.
After asking a local breeder friend, I couldn't believe someone would do that to an animal. It just does not seem right in any sense. Now, I will admit that most of my animals are rescues, so I haven't really dealt much with breeders.
Having rescue animals entails alot of challenges as many may know. Parasites, dehydration, starvation, mites... the list goes on. So I'm not completely clueless. You would think that going through even a good hobbyist breeder, you wouldn't have to deal with much in that sense.
Nevertheless, we still quarantine for those reasons, the unknown. Which was a very good thing I did so because she did arrive with an RI. So that was strike two for me.
Then this. Something new to me altogether. I am not usually an accusatory kinda fella, however. All of this has been a bit much for me.
I will keep doing as I am for now and see what happens. If anything changes, for better or worse, I will post here. You never know who else may need (or have the answer to) this info in the future right?
