Wallace is in the "canopy" about 80% of the time. He totally digs being up there. He had one hunt from the perches, and obviously succeeded and from that point on, when he smells food, he goes up, if he's not there already.

I know every snake is different, every keeper is different and every situation is different. BUT,,, if you have the means to do so, set up a big cage with some ceiling space and be rewarded.

I get to watch this type of stuff every day.

I normally feed F/T but I have 2 snakes that are very picky. The carpet is hit or miss and the royal ONLY eats live.

This was a live refusal. Wallace had it taken care of in seconds.

He watched it from above and then it was all over.

Sometimes I don't know how he even constricts because his initial strike is so deep the prey is half gone. That goes for both live and F/T

He did all of his business from above, never once descending to the floor.

He did let gravity work for him though.

And a few moments later it was pretty much over.

It took some effort to set his cage up the way I wanted, but the entertainment value is off the charts.

I also fully believe the snake benefits by displaying natural behaviors.

    Hope that was enjoyable.

    Have a safe week!

Honestly, I really appreciate this post and I have had the most successful feeding come "death from above" ... when they squish themselves between the hide top and tub lid.

    Hope others follow the trend.

I'll definitely be getting creative when I add a carpet.

My BP has a PVC pipe fastened to the back half of his screen lid (40 breeder w/ hinged lid, so the back stays in place) which he climbs up and into regularly.

My King had a PVC pipe he never used, and rarely uses the climbing branches he has, but a shelf type perch might be cool for him.

I might try one of those little hammocks or something for my hognose, or a tiny PVC pipe.

My Borneo ain't going anywhere off the ground, hahaha!

This thread has inspired me to get a little creative and experimental...

Man, he looks so fantastic. And his setup is gorgeous! It's really nice to see a keeper give their tic some head space. I hardly ever see that and I think it's just so freaking good for them. Clearly, you are both benefiting from your hard work!

I stepped into the species looking for something a bit more active and semi arboreal. Through research I learned even the large mainland retics enjoy climbing.

Who can forget the YouTube video of a big retic going right up a palm tree??

Honestly I wish my cage was taller than 2 feet. I’m lucky Wallace is mostly SD and dwarf so I probably have the perfect cage for him. But another foot or to would be fun.

It’s always a treat trying to find him. I never know where he’ll be in the cage.

    I agree.

So far things have been going well.

Although I trust him the least of the four here, I can't complain.

My hope is that he doesn't grow a lot more. I would be OK with 2 more feet as I think he's about 7.5 - 8 feet now.

He's by far the most entertaining snake here most of the time.

Lol, yeah male retics during breeding season are crazy. Mine is quite questionable these days:rolleye2: My female is a complete doll on the other hand.

Awesome critter and enclosure Gio. Is that a 6x2x2 enclosure?
