I use similar substrates and have never had an issue. You can lay a paper plate or something similar over the substrate if it puts you at ease (not paper towel, that can get stuck to the prey and swallowed), but I never do.
Keep in mind where they eat in nature, nobody moves them or cleans their prey or puts anything down for them...

The others above talked about the helping part a lot, but not a ton about keeping it.

More than likely, after shed, it will be crumpled in a ball in some random corner. You need to get to it early on to be able to unroll it, once it dries you cant do it. If you miss the chance, dont worry, theres always next time! I had to wait until a second chance

i read somewhere from a breeder the key to properly shed is a snake well hydrated just make sure the snake has water at all times and if you keep humidity 50 or a bit higher is fine sometimes what i do with my corn snake when in shed i take her out and i offer water sometimes she drinks when there in shed they don't like to move my BP shed recently i knew she was in the process but i didn't know how far a few days later i found a shed rolled like a condom and a big poop inside the cold hide lol i just keep humidity above 50 at all times and a big bowl of water.
