It's best if snakes consume little or no substrate while under our care (even if it does happen in nature) & the good news is, it's easily prevented. Just feed
your snake on a "plate"....no, not your granny's antique china...just something like cardboard that SERVES as a plate. A shoebox lid works, a paper plate, etc.
Whatever keeps the substrate from sticking all over the dead prey.

I don't see anything that suggests a SINGLE ball python needs to be fed in a side cage. They are saying that IF you house 2 of them in the same cage, you
would need to feed them separately in other cages...:O They've got all kinds of garbage-information in this article...and remember, they are in the BUSINESS
of SELLING you accessories for your pet...like those extra cages. Their instructions should be flushed...whoosh!!!

It's the last line under landscaping. "A food dish is not required in the habitat as Ball Pythons should be placed in separate enclosures (such as a large plastic container or tub) for feeding"
