Flexwatt can be made to work is almost any application. If your setup if the wood is thicker than 1/4" I would put the flexwatt in the cage and seal it off with plexiglass and silicone. As long as the animal cannot come into contact with the heater than you are fine...

I just recently fitted a homemade rack with the flexwatt and it was fairly easy to "setup". as Matt said it can be used in many applications from racks to individual cages. Just make sure you have a good thermostat...I started with a cheaper one, and I got what I payed for and will need to purchase something more reliable before winter hits.

A question of my own for Matt that I've been meaning to ask: In my rack the 3" flexwatt fit perfectly along the back of each shelf (not the back of the rack itself...the inside back of each level) in its own little channel (I need to get pics to show what I'm talking about). Its heating from the back and works nicely as I only have two larger sized tubs per shelf. My question is this: is there a more efficient way of using the heat these strips produce by using some sort of element/material between the plywood back and the flexwatt itself? I don't have a problem getting enough heat, but I can feel the heat through the plywood backing I used so in a sense I'm heating the wood also. I did use much thiner plyood for the back so its not as dense as the other supporting parts. I've cought comments about foil tape is this where that could be applied?

Sure foil tape will provide some degree of insulation but not very much as it is a very good conductor.. Unless it is messing with your temps then I woul just leave it be as there is really no easy solution to that problem.. Refletix cpild be used but that is a whole nother ball game in itself..... Shoot me some pics if I am way off here..lol..
