Dachshund attack

As you can see...Dachshunds are savage little buggers....(This is Peppers, he's my sister's dog) 5 years old, full size dachshund, and about 18lbs. His legs are literally 5 inches long. He's also known as Sgt. Pudgy Paws. :D:D

there are pictures out there of the dead pack. they were of formidable enough size to do damage as a group; i'd have been terrified. this is incredibly sad and the owner should be charged with homicide.

Speaking as a 52-year-old woman, I can see it happening. A while back I tripped most of the way out in the back of our 189’ deep lot in the dark. The ground was squishy enough that I didn’t get hurt, but I didn’t bounce right back up on my feet, either. Sat there for a few minutes whining at the naughty beagles (and getting a wet tuchis) until said brats came to see what I was doing sitting on the ground.

If there’s been a pack of nasty-tempered small dogs after me I’d have been in trouble. If I’d hurt myself falling, even one or two could have been a problem.

I can’t remember if I had my phone or not, but since then I try very hard to keep it with me at all times when home alone.

I agree, terrible way to go.

Bites are painful. Those ripping, deep bites and mauling are excruciating.

Those dogs looked stout and perfectly able to deliver deep and ripping bites. Shorter legs and less weight means nothing, as soon as they had her on the ground it was game over for her. I played tug of war with a around 40 pound bull terrier once and the strength with which he ripped the rope from my arm was amazing. To think of of that power ripping on flesh and muscle..

Any dog breed, any dog even, sweet or not, can change once pack mentality takes over. Its the same with humans even. That's why I don't like when people have a large amount of dogs but take no time nor effort to control them. Free roaming packs of dogs should always be picked up by animal control asap.

I feel terrible for the lady and her family / friends. Not only did she die a horrible and painful death, but the media clearly took advantage of the breed/mix to twist this into a somewhat "hilarious" thing with their headlines and reporting.

I think its wrong to turn this tragedy into a laughingstock OR another breed or "large dog vs small dog" debate.

Its another case of some looser collecting to many dogs, neglecting and ignoring them, and due to that having a woman die a horrific way and 7 dead dogs, too.

If it weren't for the news story I would not have believed this.

The simple fact is the news decided to spin this to create a sardonic headline. Tragic as it may be if it weren't for the way in which the media sold it, we wouldn't be talking about it. People are the victims of animal attacks everyday, all over the world. Sharks, bears, cougars, dogs, snakes, blue ringed octopus, funnel spiders, even deer have all killed people at one time or another. The list goes on and on. Do we post or worry about all of them? No.

I use levity to keep things from spiraling downward because there is enough "extreme" tragedy in this world without focusing on this. Is someone going to post a thread about the school shooting in Texas today? Probably not. And why, because it is starting to become so commonplace that society is becoming numb to it. I find it far more tragic and discussion worthy than a woman attached by a pack of dogs.

If you really want to talk about death and tragedy, here is a mind blower. In the next 100 years at least 6 to 7 billion people will die. That's not a guess or premonition, but a fact. There are currently around 7 billion people on the planet at this very moment and almost all will be gone 100 years from now, and for a myriad of tragic and non-tragic reasons. So let's not get on the soap box and finger point or condescend, or get all bent out of shape about who is being flippant or lacking compassion. I'll leave you to talk amongst yourselves. I'm feeling a bit verklempt.

I look at it this way myself..... if, when I'm older I pass away via a pack of Dachshunds I would expect people to laugh at how I kicked the bucket as I would certainly be laughing myself. Life is too short to take everything so seriously (and I've dealt with quite a bit of death in my time so far), frankly this site is dry enough where you need a little humor sometimes to keep things interesting. I'm not being insensitive, but hey, it's not everyday someone goes out like this.

I agree, there is always something "worse" or more worthy of attention and/or empathy.

I see a abused dog, others say hey, there are abused children, that is worse. I see a rapist, others say, hey, that murderer over there, he is worse.

I see a beautiful snake, others say, hey, that puppy over there is far prettier.

And yes, we have become numb. We are bombarded daily by some kind of tragedy, abuse, neglect, natural disaster, terrorism and the list forever goes on...

Every now and then something "sticks" for whichever reason. In this case, it has to do with animals. We are a animal oriented forum, so therefor that is a topic which may end up in here more so then others.
On top of that, the very way in which this was presented (by the press, not the Original Poster) spins this into our conscience. I don't like the way it was done. I realize the news have to spin their stories in ways to create interest, esp. since people have become numb to all but the most terrible or obscure, weird or funny.

Personally, I don't point my finger at the original poster or anyone that found that story ironically funny in a way. I point my finger at the media for turning this tragedy, as small as it is in the big picture of the worlds tragedies, into slapstick comedy of a sort.

Of course it strikes one as a bit hilarious to picture a pack of Wieners on a murdering rampage. The way this was presented will result in a never-ending flood of meme's, jokes and also discussion of small vs large vs breed of dogs. I don't like that part of it.

Do I think the school shooting is worse? Yes. But then, I'm not a family member of the woman who got killed, and I am not judge and jury to decide which of the worlds terrible things carry more weight then the other.

The more one thinks about it all, the more depressing it gets. Someone told me once, the world is going to crap, more crime then ever, more atrocities. But then again, I believe this has always gone on. Perhaps not as sophisticated or on the scale that our technology enables. But tragedies and disasters have been a thing since the dawn of time. The difference is, back when there was no world news, TV's, internet or even newspapers you rarely heard much of anything but what happened in the immediate surroundings. Nowadays you hear of everything from everywhere and it can become overwhelming.
