"Just" normal azemiops feae or atheris hispida. 99.9% die within their first few weeks in captivity. The rest die within the next couple months. No one has been able to figure out how to keep them alive in captivity, no less breed them. How many reptiles can you still say that about?

I would love to solve a puzzle like that much more than release yet another morph or hybrid.

I'm pretty sure there are people who have bred atheris hispida before... I think it might have been in Germany. Never even saw that other one though.... beautiful.

Nope. There are rumors of someone in Germany keeping 2 specimens alive for a almost a year, but no breeding. I personally know a guy who imported a pregnant female and kept her alive long enough to drop the babies, but they all died.

Since I love purple, I would have to throw some purple in the mix. I'm talking like Minnesota Vikings purple.

Maybe a mangrove with purple in place of the yellow...

Or instead of a white lipped python maybe a purple lipped python, so still black but purple instead of white...

Or a 50/50 Cal King with black and purple banding...

Anybody else sensing a pattern here??? I love black and purple together. Maybe throw some chrome in the mix??? Wait, that's my dream motorcycle....

Yeah... that is weird... it's not like they even have a strict diet requirement or anything, I know they eat a lot of frogs in the wild but so do lots of snakes... perhaps a rodent diet kills them due to the amount of fat?

    Double recessive TSK axanthic Tristripe!
Of course, TSK first produced both of these so 100 to 1 odds he produces the worlds first combo of those.

They normally don't survive long enough to even voluntarily take a meal. The rumor(!) is that they are strict slug and snail eaters, which is interesting to me only because the world slug and snail convention is held in my garden every summer.

If i ever get the chance to keep one, id probably try a rodent free diet, frogs, feeder lizards, and slugs may work. I had a friend who kept coral snakes and he had the same issue, the few he could train to eat rodents always died withing a few months, the ones that ate snakes and lizards did fine long term.
