    I don’t use risers because I want to use all available heat so I can actually use LESS heat.

    My UTH and RHP are all on the same side of each cage. That way, the RHP on the bottom cage is “prewarming” the floor on the cage above it, so less heat is needed from the UTH. And vice, versa. The UTH is prewarming the ceiling of the cage beneath, so less heat is needed from the RHP.

    I dont use an air gap for any of my AP cages. As long as you are using a t-stat, you should be fine as it wont get over 100F anyways. But if you do want an air gap, just go to Ikea or a furniture store and pick up furniture pucks for sliding furniture across floors.

    And no, the only 'recess' is AP routes out a little line in the shape of a square on the bottom of their cages to kind of act as a template for where the heat tape goes.
