I totally agree that some of these videos are total crap, the people making them have little knowledge and are only looking for an ego boost. But there are some really good guys out there, like Brian Kusko, that are doing videos for the right reasons and supporting them is a positive thing for the community.

Just wanted to give another perspective on it, looking at it from the side of the people who are doing videos the right way and for the right reasons :)

What I am saying is what is the chance that Olympus Reptiles who is boosted by TGR will say "Man I came across this FB rack and its way better than what I use now"....

That's taking the honesty out of the game. You have to be able to be impartial when you give info and reviews...

That is one example, and yes it totally happens. I am saying that some people are honest and impartial regardless, so it is not fair to lump all sponsored videos into the same category. There are plenty of positives that come from the sponsorships, I just wanted to point that out.

I watch a handful of reptile-related Youtube channels, usually for background noise while I'm doing household chores. That being said, many, MANY, younger individuals getting involved in reptiles (Middle School/High School) do most of their research on Youtube... if its a platform to help build proper reptile keepers then I can't complain, whether its personally too my taste or not.

NOW, that being said, people perpetuating incorrect information or who obviously are doing in strictly for the monetization aspect and notoriety, are doing nothing to benefit the hobby and that I find distasteful.

Ok so yesterday a live IG video was posted and the "breeder" obviously hatched a severely deformed snake. My thought goes to culling so if alive there is no suffering. His thought was to mention someone saying it should be skinned and turned into a bracelet. That was followed up by the other guy nothing short of guaranteeing that he proved BPs are temp sexed. Thoughts on either of those....

I would never begrudge someone with ambition who is trying to be successful. If you don't like their content, their experience level or their sponsorships then simply don't watch.

I choose what I listen to and what I ignore. You can't control what other people do so I don't see the point in getting irate over it. No offence intended just my point of view.

Trust me I am the furthest thing from Irate. What bothers me though is that the community is being brought up on Youtube and the internet. So you are 100% right that you cant control what people post or say, however guidance is key for the safety of the animals and the knowledge people attain. To a 14 year old 20k followers is king. He doesn't know 19k were purchased and the info being given is garbage, nonsense at best. So my point has no anger behind it, cause I take care of me, but it would be nice if people could just "say something if you see something"... Put your snakes on chemical pads? Seen it. Overfeed your snakes? Seen it... The list goes on and on...

I see what you mean. Unfortunately though the kind of people who will follow bad advice from one person instead of researching properly are people who would mistreat animals anyway regardless of what other people do online.
