I would suggest picking up an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer/hygrometer from walmart...usually costs $12-$15. They work great and will give you all the temp and humidty info you need.

The warm side of the enclosure should be 92-94, cool side 82-84, and humidity around 50-60%

Why not type up a 'Common Ball Python Myths' article......I am sure if it would be an awesome addition to the journal section on your site.....and it would give me a cool place to link to instead of trying to explain stuff :)

I will be getting rid of the heat rock and replacing it with a undertank heater and i am planning on buying clips for the top so Groper (my BP) can't cat out.. what size tank is recommended for a 3 foot BP? I was thinking of getting him a 30 - 40 gallon tank but in the meantime the 20 gallon will do untill i get paid next week.

A 40 gallon "breeder" tank will be fine for your snakes entire life. Ditch the hot rock ASAP, they are a great source for thermal burns. 82-84 on one side 92-94 on the other measured with a digital thermometer. Small tight hide boxes on each side of the cage and a small water bowl and you'll be set.

That's a great idea ... time is my biggest problem! :(

    I'll get there. ;)

It's something I've read on the other forum I visit, plus something I have an opinion about. Doesn't mean I don't do it... I agree about the availability. If all that's available is weaned rats, the snake's gotta eat.

    ?devil's advocate/on

I could see that solely from the angle of it simply being easier to feed a single prey item than trying to feed multiple/consecutive prey items. Simply logistical - what if it won't take the second feed?

    /Off

(EDIT - arguably though that may be just "easier" and not "much better")

I'd still like to see the evidence that it's "much better"? From my experience, I just don't see how anyone could say that.

Easier I could understand ... "much better" boggles my mind? .... FWIW, I have 1 ball python out of 225-ish (that's a guess) right now that won't take multiple meals and even though she is 1700 grams she still only gets a single 40-50 gram rat per week .... and guess what? She's perfect in every way. :P
