I am only a snake phobic if the snake is venomous and very very close to me :D I prefer to see them at least a 6 ft. distance or behind glass.

I love snakes...and I like herping.....snakes don't bother me unless they sneak up on me in the woods.....ever seen a grown man jump 3 ft. in the air? :)

I'm very glad to see I'm not the only one. Maybe this proves that there is a snake for almost everyone? Ya just have to find the right one. :)

Hey, I'm not gonna laugh. I used to climb up grown men to get off the ground.

Wild snakes still startle the heck out of me. When I saw the coral snake it was slithering 3 ft from me moving away. I froze and started saying the rhyme 'red on yellow kill a fellow, red on black venom lack' while looking at his bands. When he was gone I turned around and came inside. I also had a black racer that liked to hang out under my rosemary bush. I was outside when we had a mututal of omaha wild kingdom kind of moment and the black racer ran down a water frog right in front of me. I didn't climb up my hubby but I did have a death grip on his arm. That's definite progress. :D

I still may be. I just purchased a ball python for my son's B-day (7-years) He has been dying for a snake. I said no way, then went to the pet shop and held one. I guess not to bad. I pick up my son's tomorrow. Wish me luck. My Brother has 3 full grown BP, so I have a little support in the family to help.

i never considered myself afraid. then my friend convinced me to get BP cause i wanted a pet that i was allowed to keep in my townhome cause im away for college. i was SO FREAKIN AFRAID to handle my new snake, i used gloves to get her out of her tank (i feel so dumb now lol). now i hate the days after feeding and during shed cause i cant hold her! my family thought i was retarded for getting it, but now they're all hooked! even my 3 year old niece loves her lol. man i want another one..

I have never been afraid of snakes as my brother had them when we were growing up. He used to put them in our beds, down our shirts so we learned to catch and hold them. He committed suicide two years ago. The day we planed his memorial, I came home to find a snake basking in the sun in my driveway. I have lived in this house for 17 years, and never seen a snake around here anywhere. I have a snake tattoo holding a rose with his initials under it. I now own a corn and a ball. My husband was terrified of snakes, and so were my kids. Not now! My husband loves the ball, and he takes care of thelma. Just loves to get her out, and can't hardly wait the two days after feeding. They are such beautiful creatures.:D

Softail04 - Good luck. It's great you have family support. BPs to me are much slower moving and seem more laid back than corn snakes. They are great if you aren't use to handling snakes. :)

elra - I know what you mean. So far I have resisted the temptation to get another but I want another BP soooo badly. Who knew BPs were like potato chips. lol

suzanne - I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. I thought it was really cool you coming home to find that snake basking on your driveway. Maybe it was his way of letting you know that everyting is ok. BPs are so beautiful that I bet they could help most people overcome their fear of snakes. :)

A snake basking in the sun where none had ever been seen before....mmmm...well it's only my personal belief system but I'd take that as a very personal sign. It's doesn't matter if no one else would "get it", it wasn't for them so why should they.
