Ok so dumb question. What are they used for and if it's for locking, if they both have them how do they work with each other?

Males use the spurs to “tickle” the female’s body to stimulate her to mate. You can see them moving back and forth, it’s pretty neat! They aren’t used for locking.
Not that weird! Human males have nipples with no purpose because the fetus develops mammaries before the Y chromosome kicks in and tells it that it needs male genitalia.
Actually, you're right. Biology is weird as heck.

Spurs are supposedly the remnants of the legs that snakes once had, a long time ago. It's now just a useless body part, besides the tickling.
