    Things that need to be taught to every exotics vet

    1. Never ever assume your client is uneducated.
    2. Ask how many of a particular species the owner is keeping and for how long before you begin a lesson on proper care.
    3. Get current on the species you are going to be treating before walking into the room with the client.
    4. Do not treat a breeder or a large collector like a person that just brought in the family dog. (Before I will even entertain seeing a vet I make it very clear that I will need and expect that I be treated like a livestock farmer instead of a pet owner)

    Want and afford are sometimes two very different things. Very realistic payment plans are very important to me. A big concern of mine is the growing support for medical insurance for pets. If it goes the way of health insurance has for humans, I expect that insurance will end up being a necessity that many people won’t be able to afford, and out of pocket payments will become impossible.
