Re: Snake obsession
I'm lucky - my husband has 2 RTBs, my son has 3 Cornsnakes, soon to be 4 and I have 2 Royal Pythons and a Pueblan Apricot Milksnake so we are all snake lovers. My eldest daughter (live 500 miles away) likes lizards. My brother (also 500 miles away) doesn't mind snakes either.
Most of our friends know we've got them and some handle them quite happily.

Re: Snake obsession
I'm so lucky that Mike and I share this love of herps. Our three oldest are snake crazy too. Our almost 18 year old actually asked for a cornsake and setup for it as her housewarming gift for her new apt. She said "well it's not like home w/o a snake in it mom!" LOL Our 14 and 11 year old are saving madly for their own Nelson's Milksnakes and have that "I'm gonna raise them up and breed em" gleam in their eyes already. The only hold out thus far is the 4 year old who still just wants a puppy of his very own! LOL

Re: Snake obsession
My co-workers shudder every time they walk past my desk if I've got it on the desktop. I have Adam's wallpaper with the Albino and Caramel on it! LOL
My boss told me I'd be fired when I jokingly said "don't you think we need an office mascot, perhaps a nice ball python set up on my desk?". However, he did ask if I could bring Kashmire in next time he needs a feed so he can watch - not happening! LOL

Re: Snake obsession
Oh yeah, I can only talk to the wife about my snakes til, I get the look then I have to cut off and change the subject. A few people around me think they are cool, but most think I'm nuts. I also dont tell anyone or take my snakes out in my front yard anylonger, since I dont want any extra attention brought to them, already been a round with the Bexar county sherrif once about them, I won but was very nervouse for about an hour.

We are moving into our own building in October and I suggested that instead of a fish tank, that they do a nice 8 ft tank with a burm. I dont think they thought it was too cool of an idea.

I'm so scared to take my snakes outside. I live in an aparment complex, and, while there are nice grassy areas around, I don't want to freak out the neighbors. If they'd start complaining, I could lose my babies! NO WAY!

Re: Snake obsession
Geesh Sean what in the world! You must live in a quiet county if the Sheriff had nothing better to do with his taxpayer paid time then hassle you about your snakes?

someone saw me shooting pics of my rainbow boa in my front yard (it has a great tree) they called the sherrif and complained he came out to check out what was up and make sure I had nothing illegal. He was cool and even knew his snakes but I was like "ahh yeah I have a few snakes" when I answered the door. I was worried for a few min.

Re: Snake obsession
It is always fun to find fellow herp nuts. At my friend's pet store, I will always inquire people that are buying mice, what they're feeding them to. I am just a darn curious person. At first sometimes, they look at me like they wanna say "what, are you one of those animal-rights nuts?. lol" but when I start talkin about what I have, nine times out of nine, they will also go on and on about their reptiles.
My boyfriend likes our snakes, but he is just to busy to spend much time cleaning/feeding, so I do all that stuff. He will hold one for ten minutes, but that's about the extent of it. He does like them though!
