    No, I'm using thermometers. I have 4 total, one on the cool side, one in the middle, one on the hot spot above the substrate and one on the hot spot below it, directly on the glass.

    I'd get a gun and or probe. The thermometer could be off.

    I can do that! The above substrate temps will drop a lot though, probably 83 which seems low to me? ;0;

    that will not matter, as the snake will burrow down to get the heat it needs. also, over time, the heat will build up under the substrate; some of the heat will get trapped and raise the overall temperature of the substrate a bit. the temperature of the bottom of the enclosure is far more important than the substrate above.

    i second getting a temp gun. they really provide peace of mind when checking temps, plus they're super easy to use.
